What is naturopathy | The essence of naturopathy is looking at the whole person and the many aspects of their wellness and history which make them who they are. In other words, naturopathy is a holistic form of health care which supports each individual to heal their body, mind and spirit. Naturopaths use a combination of modern science and traditional wisdom to get to understanding and treating the root cause of the health concern rather than only symptom management. |
What do naturopaths prescribe/test for? | A lot of dietary and lifestyle suggestions are provided to clients as relevant to their unique situation. When it’s indicated, nutraceuticals or herbal medicine may be prescribed. Blood testing and other functional tests can be helpful in many circumstances and this is assessed on a case by case basis. |
Who should see a naturopath? | Anyone who is looking to improve their health! Everyone is welcome. Taking this journey may involve some tricky changes or shifting of habits, so an open mindset is definitely a plus. You will be welcomed into a supportive and non-judgemental environment. |
Why are appointments so long? | First appointments are generally the longest as this is when we gather as much information as possible about you and your presenting issue as well as your history. As mentioned above, naturopathy is holistic, therefore questions will be varied and about many aspects of your physical, emotional, spiritual and mental health as well as your environment. Your health goals will be addressed. This takes time but is well worth the effort. At Elanané Wellness, the first appointment is 60 minutes. The follow up sessions are 45 minutes and review and pathology sessions are 30 minutes, as they still require information sharing and in depth discussion about the previous treatment plan and any noticed changes on your health journey. |
How do I get my prescriptions? | The naturopath will send you a treatment plan with any dietary and lifestyle suggestions via email. You will receive the order for any prescriptions via email which your naturopath will discuss with you in the session. |
Is naturopathy under Medicare | No, unfortunately you cannot get a Medicare rebate for attending a naturopathic appointment. |
How often do I need an appointment? | This is definitely on an individual case by case basis and can be discussed with the naturopath. Generally, to start with appointments are spaced between 2-6 weeks apart and tend to be spaced out further as your health progresses. However, some cases will be spaced out further from the beginning. |
Can I put a naturopath appointment under my private health? | At this stage, no. The Australian Government removed naturopathic healthcare appointments from the private health rebate scheme back in 2019. However, watch this space, as in the future we do hope for some changes to this rule. |
What is included in the appointment cost? | The appointment cost will cover the appointment time plus an individualised treatment plan. If you are prescribed any nutraceuticals or herbal medicine, this is an additional cost. Any functional testing is at an additional cost set by the laboratories undertaking the testing. |
